Trying To Adjust Windscreen The Cheap Way

I posted a review of my Lara which basically says there is nothing not right about the F700GS.
However, there are indeed things that could be better. For example the windscreen could be made better. As of stock condition, the screen does not create turbulence, but it sends the wind straight into my face.
There are some potential solutions in my head:

1.     Change to a bigger and taller windscreen.
2.     Add a diffuser to the existing windscreen.
3.     Tilt the existing windscreen.

The pro and con of each solution:
1.     Pro: sure fire way to solve the problem. Con: Money.
2.     Pro: could solve the problem. Con: Money, again.
3.     Pro: the cheapest way for I only need some spacers and screws: Con: might not work.

I went for option 3. I removed the top two screws and inserted a rubber spacer between the inner screen and meter set.I thought by adding a spacer this will tilt the windscreen outward from the rider, making the wind going over my head.

But I was wrong in the way that I could successfully tilt the screen but I couldn’t screw it back in,
because with the new angle the screw passage is no longer aligned between the windscreen the meter set.

In conclusion, it was a failed experiment.

Now my options are only the ones that involve spending money….

Cheers.

  1. If you get longer screws and make some bushings out of tubing you can stand the windscreen farther from the brackets. Depending on the angles you cut the tubing at you can angle the windscreen up some without causing the holes to slide out of alignment with the bracket. - Good luck

    1. hi there and thanks for the comment as well as advice. I believe I understand what you are trying to tell me. However, I am a little reluctant to try it out on my bike because of the fear of inflicting any permanent damage that would take a lot of money to rectify later...

  2. I've set up a few bikes with screens - a couple of BMWs (r80 and r100GS), a BSA and an Enfield. After lots of trial and error, the best settings came out the same for all of the bikes, so now I use these parameters as my 'starting position' for new screens. Screen set at 60 degrees from horizontal (30 from vertical). Top of the screen 2 inches (5cm) below my eye level, and 23 inches (58cm) from my nose. That shoots the air over my head, whilst letting me see enough of the road ahead. And then the problem you have is the screen draws air from below, which causes noise under your visor. And that's where having tank panniers and a tank bag comes in handy, blocking the flow of that 'under air'. Hope that helps. Simon Mccarthy

    1. Hi there and thanks for the comment and advice! wow you certainly have come a long way i terms of windscreen setting. I appreciate the exact measurement you gave me. Are you fabricating the windscreen by yourself may i ask? I asked that because I do not think I have seen any windscreen on market with such a large range of measurement for customers to choose from.
